How I Can Help
I specialize in supporting athletes with both mental health and performance-related concerns. Athletes often encounter periods of performance decline or obstacles that hinder their progress. Sometimes the cause is readily apparent, yet challenging to address. Other times, it lurks beneath the surface, impacting concentration, motivation, confidence, or overall performance.
These challenges may originate from within the sport itself, such as the pressure to elevate one's game rapidly. Alternatively, they may stem from personal life issues, such as relationship struggles, encroaching upon an athlete's ability to perform at their best. Often, it's a combination of both, necessitating simultaneous attention to sport-related and broader life concerns. My objective is to help athletes pinpoint the factors contributing to their performance struggles, recognize their strengths and resources, and build strategies together for overcoming these obstacles.
Below are some common sport-related issues I assist my clients with:
Performance anxiety and stress management
Managing expectations and coping with high-pressure situations
Addressing unhealthy perfectionism
Rebuilding confidence after setbacks
Regaining motivation and clarifying goals
Overcoming fears of failure or success
Preventing and recovering from burnout
Rediscovering enjoyment in sport
Coping with injuries and navigating rehabilitation
Improving focus and concentration
Addressing challenges in the coach-athlete relationship
Navigating career transitions, such as moving from youth to professional levels or transitioning out of competitive sports
AREAS OF SUPPORT
A Safe Space to Connect
Confidentiality
As a licensed psychologist, I adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines with my clients and never disclose information about them to third parties without their consent.
However, exceptions may be made if there is a risk of harm to the athlete or others, in which case I would contact the athlete's general practitioner or other relevant professionals.
A JOINT EFFORT
Coach and Parent Involvement
In certain cases, involving the athlete's coach can be beneficial. Their unique perspective from observing the athlete in training and competition can provide valuable insights. However, this decision is entirely up to the athlete and requires mutual agreement.
For adolescent athletes, the initial session may involve their parents. Subsequent involvement of parents in the process is possible but will be based on the athlete's consent and need for confidentiality.
